Vasectomy

We know a lot of men would rather fight a bear than even talk about getting a vasectomy, but if you're looking into a more permanent and effective form of birth control, it's worth considering. A vasectomy is a simple procedure that seals the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the ejaculate fluid, and it's much safer and faster than the sterilization methods available to women. Plus, with Dr. Scott Matson and the Vasectomy Center of Connecticut, you can trust that you're in good hands.

With over 20 years of experience and more than 8,000 no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomies performed, Dr. Matson is dedicated to providing personal and professional care for every patient. Our practice uses the most minimally invasive techniques available, making the procedure quick, comfortable, and low risk. Still not sure? We also offer sedation for patients who may feel anxious about the procedure.

Whether you live in Connecticut or you're willing to travel for the best care, the Vasectomy Center of Connecticut is here to help. Request your in-person or online consultation today and take the first step toward a worry-free sex life.

What to Know Before Your Vasectomy in Glastonbury, CT

How Does a Vasectomy Work?

At the Vasectomy Center of Connecticut, our 3-step approach keeps things simple and stress-free for our patients.

Consultation

The first step is to meet with Dr. Matson for a consultation. This meeting gives you the opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns and learn more about the procedure. It also gives Dr. Matson a chance to evaluate your case, make sure you are a good candidate for the procedure, and discuss a few pre-op instructions.

These consultations are typically done in person at our Glastonbury office, but we know that many of our patients live out of state or have busy schedules, so we also offer telemedicine consultations.

The Vasectomy Procedure

Our office was one of the first in Connecticut to adopt a no-needle, no-scalpel approach to vasectomies. This method is far less invasive, easier to heal from, and more comfortable than traditional vasectomies.

During the procedure, a local anesthetic spray will be used to numb the area. Then, using specialized instruments and an expert hand, Dr. Matson will make a tiny opening in the scrotum instead of a traditional incision. This approach reduces bleeding, discomfort, and the risk of complications.

The vas deferens, the tubes that carry sperm, will then be sealed, preventing sperm from reaching the ejaculate fluid. A vasectomy typically only takes 10 to 15 minutes, and most patients experience minimal discomfort.

After the procedure, you'll be given some post-op instructions , including resting for 48 hours and continuing to use birth control until a semen analysis comes back clear.

Semen Analysis

After a vasectomy, your body has to clear the remaining sperm out of your system. In fact, half of all vasectomy failures happen in the first three months, when “old” sperm might still be present. To make sure that the coast is clear, we always recommend that patients do an at-home semen test .

Results only take a day or two to come back after mailing your test. If there is still sperm present (which is common), a new kit will be sent automatically for you to try again in another month. If you have any questions about your results, feel free to reach out to us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will getting a vasectomy affect my sex drive?

Nope! Your libido, hormone levels, and ability to get an erection won't change after a vasectomy. The amount of fluid you ejaculate may decrease by about 1%, and it won't contain any sperm, but as far as you or your partner will be able to notice, everything will be the same.

Can a vasectomy be reversed?

Not always. Though we do also offer vasectomy reversal, it's important to know that vasectomies are intended to be permanent. In other words, you should only get a vasectomy if you're sure that you don't want any (more) kids.

How much does a vasectomy cost?

The cost of a vasectomy can vary depending on a number of factors, but at the Vasectomy Center of Connecticut, we offer flexible financing options to make the procedure accessible for all our patients.
